They've shown that the Cell's performance and 8 cores really aren't beneficial to the desktop scenario, or the game system for that matter.

Well, i am definitely considering what your saying. I'll admit I haven't used any processor intensive taks on the newer P4's. My desktops a socket 478 2.8 Ghz, and to be honest, i've always been quite pleased with that. It may just be that difference between older P4's and newer cause when i hope on a dual processor G5 and do some video editing/rendering I am always more pleased. I would be curious to see a Dual Dual Core G5 go against a Dual Dual Core Pentium 4. I won't make any conclusions, taking into account some of the above said things. But i would be curious to see it.
I do honestly think that Mac OSX is beautiful compared to windows. I love windows, just not as much. My one biggest complaint would be that internet explorer is built into the OS and screws with it if the internet crashes (so i use firefox.) If Microsoft could release something like Vista around the same time as Mac OSX was released that would be ideal.

Yes, but don't call out the x86 platform on just Intel. There's also AMD, which, in many ways, blow away Intel. Also, a Pentium 4 is no comparison to the 2.5 G5. To compare to that, get an evenly priced Intel CPU, such as the Pentium Extreme Edition.

I think apple are having a hard time locking os x down to theyr hardware only. And they cant just open the OS up to anyone, as apples driver support is weak - dirt weak. They should sell a windows vista based OS, using an apple overlay (most people who buy apple like it cos its NOT windows, ie by the look etc. They arnt extremely bothered that it uses Unix, and anyone that is that security concious should use freebsd). It would still run apple app's, however it could also run any windows program out there. No more compatability issue's, hell i'd buy one. Stick studio max and maya on there, nice cases, nice UI, nice software compatability.

Uh, no, that would be so complicated, and buggy, that it wouldn't work. In the dream world, if It were easy, and could get going, I would use it.

Explain to me how easily the unix based applications could run on the NT kernel. Hey, I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just saying it may not be the easiest thing in the world to get working.

no i mean completely redo it. Remove unix altogether. Use the vista kernel, and then make a mac os x type Desktop environment to go ontop. Vista now incorporates the run at user level functionality, so most users will be happy, as it will be secure. Then port the ilife suit to this enhanced os, ill call it "winmac". Apple still get to sell theyr hardware, which afterall is what they are.
I'd buy a mac box, if it was basically windows, with theyr Look and fell ontop. Be able to use DX10, and avalan to do the alpha opacity. Meaning no more compatability issue's, the ability to run games smoothly, ability to run all games (excl open source linux / unix games).
They'r laptop's would sell like hot cakes.
