Itunes won't play certain songs
Hi,
I've got rather a lot of tracks and bought an external drive with 500gb. My music takes up 100gb but when I go to 'computer' it's telling me that I have used up 450gb? I went into it and some of my tracks were duplicated so I sent the dupes to the recycle bin but haven't emptied it. Then I went on to I Tunes and tried to play various tracks. Some will play and some won't. A box comes up saying that the original can't be found and would I like to locate it, and it leaves an exclamation mark next to the track. I went to the recycle bin to restore but it won't let me, saying there isn't enough space on the Iomega drive. Can somebody please advize me what to do and how to get my I Tunes back to normal. Some of the tracks are from I Tunes, some from Kick Ass Torrent, and the rest are CD's. Please somebody help as this is doing my head in.
Many thanks,

did it convert a lot of them when you imported them?
iTunes converts a lot of the songs so they can be played via iTunes (at least it did for me, because I've collected music from various sources over the years), and if I'm not mistaken it leaves the original files alone, and creates duplicates that are in the right format for it to play; that would explain the excessive HD space being used. it is odd however that it's taking up 4 x's the space
maybe you're deleting the new converted duplicates?
I think it might just be time to go through your collection and refresh it. Delete your playlists on iTunes, and remove all the songs in the iTunes library. Then go through ALL of your music folders and make sure you have no duplicates, maybe even remove some songs you don't listen to anymore. Once your satisfied with your collection, then go back into iTunes and just add the entire music library FOLDER as apposed to doing individual files, and that should make everything fresh again. Then go and make your playlists again.
I like to do that every few months, as my music taste constantly changes
