ITunes/Quicktime install problems

I just purchased an ipod nano, and it's killing me that I can't use it because Quicktime won't install properly. The only error message that I get is, "There was a problem encountered in this plugin". I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times to no avail. I had a shuffle about a year ago that i sync'd with this PC with no problems. What gives? I'm very much a computer laymen, so the simpler your suggestions the better. I love and miss my music! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, James.

Also, if I am fortunate enough to get this problem fixed, how do I get my music already on this PC into Itunes?

I hope this helps, if it doesn't have you tried the links on Apple's website?

First, uninstall Quicktime from Add/Remove and then start searching for it on your local drive:

C:\Program Files
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
C:\WINDOWS\system32\quicktime
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS

Download Reg Cleaner;
http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/programs/regcleaner.exe (cut and paste link into address bar)
Run RegCleaner. Under the Software tab, find all entries for quicktime and delete them. Reg Cleaner is an excellent safe program that makes a backup of all changes so you can reverse them.

Hopefully you should now be able to install Quicktime and iTunes. If not get back to me
