ITUNES Installation Problem
Hi All
I am new to this forum so hope I have come to the correct area to post my problem. Anyway, its all to do with Itunes and my WIN XP machine. I had a computer crash the other day and I seem to be back to normal. Seems the only problem I have left is with Itunes. Whenever I open up my shortcut, PC tells me that Itunes has a problem and will now close. Figured the best thing to do is to uninstall it and reload however, I get the same message when trying to remove from add/remove. Finally tried the repair facility but that didn't work either. Seems now I have Itunes that I cant remove nor can I re-install. Any ideas please Thanks Keith London UK |

Itunes
Hi
Thanks for getting back to me. Jazzyb88 - Tried the system restore but this didn't help. Kickbackpunk - Well I have taken your advice and removed as best I can all elements of ITUNES/QTIME. I downloaded v4.9 and installed it however, the message I get now is: Quicktime failed to initialize Error # 2095. This is about as far as it gets. Any further hlep much appreciated. Yeah that was an error I was getting too. I forgot to mention the "documents and settings" folder in there under "all users" and "application data" there is more stuff that apple throws in. Also do a search in the registry for "quicktime" you'll be amazed at how many entries it makes. Delete as many as possible, you might even have to do this in safe mode. So won't probably delete because they are corrupt. That was the only way I was able to get a working copy of iTunes and quicktime going again. It really pisses me off what a mess the iTunes 5 makes to your registry. I can't believe Apple allows this stuff to go out unchecked. Oh by the way I spoke to Apple developers in Texas on Friday and they quietly admitted that there is serious problems with v5.0. I hope this gets you further. I'll post up here when I get more info.

Itunes/QT
Hello Again
Thanks for sticking with me while I try to get this sorted. I have done the usual search and deleted all files found. Not sure how you "search the registry". Maybe you could advise me. Thanks Keith London UK |

Searching The Registry
Okay if you never done this before be very careful. Deleting the wrong key can cause serious problems. First thing you do is click on "Start" then '"run" and in the run box type "regedit" this will bring up the registry editor. Click on "edit" then "find" make sure all the check boxes are checked. Then enter "quicktime" in the search box and choose find next. Use the F3 button to continue the search after it finds something there will be multiple entries. Delete the entire key for any entries that actually have the word quicktime in it. Some you won't be able to but get as many as you can.

Quicktime 7 sucks major ass. It took forever to install and now this wierd thing I don't trust wants to connect to the internet, so i block it, it hasn't seemed to give me any problems. But its wierd, i can watch some movies with sound (very choppy but thats probably my sound card) and yet others are silent when they're not supposed to be.

There is one more problem after you installed iTunes and Quicktime. I just noticed that and have made a thread for it. If you are avid iTunes user like I am, please check the thread here: http://www.devhardware.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=59656

Running XP SP2. I cleaned every reference of iTunes & QT off my system (registry included). When I would try to install v.5.0.1.4 (plus a few other older versions) the installation would go along OK, then just abort with no error message, and the program wasn't loaded. I pointed the install to d:\iTunes, and watched the directory in Windows Explorer during the installation process. The install package would create the folder and insert all of the relevant files and executables, then suddenly delete everything, including the folder. So, I created 2 new folders, iTunes and iTunes2. I pointed the install to iTunes again. When the files appeared in the folder, I quickly did a ctrl-a, ctrl-c, then switched to iTunes2 and did a ctrl-v (google windows hotkeys if you’re not familiar). The install then deleted iTunes like before, but all the files were copied to iTunes2, and it works fine. You gotta be real quick. To be honest, I couldn’t do it with 5.0.1.4.-- v.4.7.1.3 takes longer on the QT portion of the install, so that’s what I’m using. I don't use an iPod or anything, I just like the radio stations.

I noticed that QuickTime that comes with that package is the source of many issues of iTunes.
here is what i tried and worked perfectly with me. try to extract the downloaded execution file using WinRAR or WinZip. U will get iTunes.msi, QuickTime.msi and 2 other files. Install QuickTime by running QuickTime.msi & then try to run iTune to see if the problem is solved. if not yet then reinstall iTune again and for most cases it will ask you for the path of the msi package. so just give it the path where did u previously extracted the files & thats it. i hope that this works with you as it works with me |
