CPUZ shows macbook pro i7 as i5
I'm running xp pro on a 17" mbp 2.8Ghz i7. I started looking for something with similar specs in a windows laptop and can't find anything so I started wondering about the processor. I ran cpuz and on the CPU tab:
Name: Intel Core i5
Package: Socket 1156 LGA
Specification: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU M 640@2.8GHz
Core Speed: 2693.8 MHZ
First, is the discrepancy because I'm in virtualbox?
Second, is the processor really a 2.8GHz or is that the "Turbo" speed?
Third, anyone know of a PC laptop that does 1920x1200 with a 2.8GHz i7 that can take 8GB of ram and fit the slightly thicker 1TB drive from WD???
10 years ago I used to love Macs. I've grown to hate on Apple. The Mac Pro is a little overrated, but I can't seem to find an alternative to the macbook pro. I'm thinking I should buy one and just run boot camp and default it to load W7.
Edit: this one is my sister's Final Cut machine, in case that didn't make sense.

Agreed, though in this case, I don't think it has anything to do with Apple.
CPUID is done with a very simple 25 line snippet of assembly, which, for some reason, isn't identifying the difference in the Arrandale line when run through VMware. IIRC, the assembly is technically not being run natively, so that could be a potential source off this problem.

Asus models like the g73 series are awesome if you need a 17inch machine with a quad core i7 and highend graphics. Also couple that with a 2 year warranty where the 1st year has accidental damage covered its awesome

I do think Apple is about the experience though. A high build quality, along with a refined look that no PC can seem to match (though Sony comes very close).
And needless to say, a hackintosh is just a headache when you want to update. First time I got a real Mac, and I hit software update, without editing ketxts and such, I was so happy.

The 7/8 M series all have a ridiculously high TDP for a "laptop". Portable desktop replacement, sure, but if you need that thing to run on battery for any meaningful work, you're better with a dually-Arrandale, or waiting for what Sandy Bridge has to offer.

PowerPC forever! Even if soon I'm going to have to buy an intel Mac
PowerPC will be missed, but today's Intel Macs are faster and run much better than PPC macs ever did. PowerPC would be great in desktops, but Apple's highly successful laptops would be nowhere without x86 today.

Well ofc the intel macs will run faster but imho the PowerPC machines were much cooler. They had more thought put in to them if you know what I mean. *drools over an iMac G3*
