Denis,
the Intel LGA 775 socket on a 680i board has so much potential for growth. You are comparing a low/med Intel CPU to AMD's high end CPU and the Intel matches it. Also, the AM2 line is at a end, they are going AM3 whereas the CPUs of the 775 are still growing and about to move to the 45mn which means in a couple weeks the we will see another price drop and even faster CPUs with better on chip coding. If you want future proof system go Intel, because as much as I have always liked AMD, they dropped the ball badly. You can not just match the ghz any more, just like when the 939s(AMD) came out a few years ago, even though they had less ghz they where faster, because they where smaller and the on die code was better. Well now they are not, AMDs chips have the poorer on die code and they are slower. Hopefully that will change, but no one sees it for the next year or so. |

Completely agree with cy.
f i had to build a system now, i would definitely go with intel chip on a p35 board. it just seems like the best compromise. i would check out the gigabyte p35-ds3R or if you have money and want a bit more features, the p35-ds4. i know that is what i would get. and the new intel processors will be compatible with the p35, with a simple bios update. however, if you are thinking about a year from now, intel should release nehalem about that time. that will probably be the end of the current architechture, as nehalem will use ddr3 for one and intel will build their processors similar to what amd did with the A64. integrated on chip memory controller, thus potentially more performance. if you want to buy a system, now is the time while DDR2 is still cheap. ddr3 doesnt offer any significant improvement over ddr2 in terms of bandwidth and latency, due to the way it works. the main advantage of ddr3 will be higher memory densities and lower power consumption. the intel quad cores are set to drop in price around april (Q6600 should be at 229$ per 1000 units) so that is also a nice alternative if you look into overclocking, amds only reach roughly 3 ghz, while intels usually reach a good 3.6 ghz before hitting a wall (that is on current core 2s) the new penryns will reach 4 ghz before hitting a wall where voltage will need to be increased substantially to get any form of gains - this is because we have hit the limit of silicon. quad core (q6600) you can expect 3-3.3 ghz. so already you know that amd isnt for performance. a e4500 will beat any amd, including the x2 6000+ if overclocked.

thanks guys i ordered the e4500, with a monster heatsink and fan, 2 1gb ram chips runing at 800mhz with latancy of 4-4-4-12, 250gb hard drive serial ata and a 55$ modo.
if its not too hard which video card can you guys sugest for this system that would not botle neck this system, but which would not be too fast that the rest of the system slows it down? |

ya for games, but i had a budget, and the cheap mobo alowed me to get the good ram, and cpu |

to be honest, if you have to spend alot more to get low latency ram, it is probably not worth it.
unless the one you got were the ocz platinum rev 2s which can be found for under 30$. depending on your budget left for the video card, and the games you want to play, you should consider reading reviews. the 3850 can be had for as low as 160$ though, and represents a good medium between gaming and multimedia as well as price. You could also consider the 3870 for as low as 185$ here are some reviews on both cards: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3151 http://www.overclockersclub.com/rev...apphire_hd3850/ http://www.legitreviews.com/article/591/1/ enjoy ![]() |
