how old is the computer, what is in it, what power supply, what board, what cpu, pictures would help.
i'd say psu or board is fried. (depending on what you end up having) i'd also check for bad capacitors on your board if its more than two years old.

I got it last year, Amd 64..Phonenix m/b..Ill try checking the power supply asap..and what pictures would you need ?

you may have a warranty on the components if it's that new!
pictures - anything from pictures showing what kind of components you have to possible burn marks or visibly damaged parts on the motherboard. |

make sure all power connectors are in for the power supply. that includes 20( +4) pin ATX connector, 4pin cpu connector and maybe video card pci-e connector.
pictures of the entire thing would be nice, as well as a picture of the board itself. i'm leaning towards a bad motherboard, but having it fail within 1 year is a bit ridiculous... i'd agree with Brian here. look for bad capacitors on the board: http://www.badcaps.net/pages.php?vid=5 click on the thumbs on that website. |

hey..what if I got a spare computer laying around can I transfer the stuff from my gateway to that ? like processor ,ram ,media card reader ?
|
|
||||
|
depending on what that spare computer has, yes and no. media readers usually use up a usb header, processor type will only work if its the same socket and the motherboard supports it, ram will only work if motherboard supports the same type and speed.
hard drives, it depends on what kind it is. if it is sata and the "spare computer" doesnnt have sata ports, then no. if it is IDE and the "spare computer" has IDE, then yes. but it wont boot up the OS of the gateway computer though and if it does, you are very lucky or likely to run into problems. |
