Quad Core vs. Dual Core? <!>PLEASE HELP<!>

I have searched without success my question is what is the difference between a quad core processor running at 2.3gh compared to a dual core processor running at 3.2gh for 80$ less?
I am willing to wait out this new technology because i really believe in AMD's approach of a new type of CPU compared to Intel's approach which i understand to be adding two dual core processors together to get a quadcore.

THANKS FOR THE HELP IM IN NEED OF ANSWERS

A quad core has 4 cores, a dual core has 2 cores.
the dual core will run faster than the quad core in applications that arent multithreaded or are only set to use 2 threads.
the quad core will fare much better in true multithreaded applications.

Effectively, today, games fare beter on faster dual cores. Multimedia fares better on quad core.

you can use this website to compare the performance difference of dual core and quad core depending on the application you use.

http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html

im assuming the 2.3 quad core youre talking about will be the phenom 9600. the dual core, however, i have no clue which one you are talking about.

regardless, just pick and choose the two cpus and the benchmark, and youll see in the charts what the performance difference is.

currently, intel's offerings beat the crap out of AMD. and intel is just about to launch penryn, which will deliver another hit to AMD which already has not much...cant call the phenoms successful really.
