Phenom 9950 + M3A79-T Deluxe MB ( Overclock question )

Current System Specs:
Phenom x4 9950 Black Edition Quad Core ( 2.6ghz x 4 )
M3A79-T Deluxe MB (AMD SB750 South Bridge )
HD4870 1gig
8 gigs of OCZ PC6400 DDR2

I have tried using AOD ( AMD Over Drive ) but honestly could use some friendly advice on the easiest way to achieve 3+ghz with a stock heatsink.

Thanks

Although my overclocking experience is limited, I would recommend an aftermarket heatsink. In my opinion the small price of the heatsink is worth avoiding the damage of overheating.

The easiest thing to do IMO is to drop the multi down to say, 12 and bring your bus speed up to say, 250. That would bring you to a nice 3Ghz even and should be within your CPU's and RAM's limits. You might have to add some Vcore voltage to the CPU if its not stable.

Good Luck!

You're running a black edition, just bump up the multiplier in the Bios.

Overclocking your ram will be a challenge though. Assuming that 8gb of ram is 4 x 2gb sticks, AMD isn't very friendly to overclocking 4 sticks of ram. The memory controller for AMD is on the actual CPU and can just cause issues when loading up all the slots.

I did bump the multi up to 15 and it boots up fine but eventually crashs when I am playin some of the more graphic intense games. I currently have it setting at 2.8 just fine but I cannot seem to reach any higher... I am going to try to do what the above poster said to see if i can get a more stable 3.0ghz... Any other suggestions would be great as well....will be back soon with an update
