Phenom 2 940 BE / Possible bad overclocker?

Funny thing this CPU, was overclocking great, I had it up to 3.8ghz at around 1.5ish volts, was running GREAT, but as soon as I slap on my 3870x2 (had a 3650 on there for testing purposes), CPU would NOT run stable. Any ideas? Won't even run stable at 3.7ghz, had voltage up to 1.6v and still un stable. Although, runs PERFECT at 3.6ghz at 1.4ish volts.

Think the PSU just not sending a clean enough energy? It's a thermaltake 700w PSU, thats about... maybe a little over a year old.

I'm going to put back my 3650 video card and see what happens.

But in either case I can still return the CPU to frys electronics and trade it in for another 940BE.

Also, temps are about 105-115 degree F, so its not a heat issue

What do you guys think?

Phenom 2 940BE @ 3.6ghz ;(
Cooler Master V8
Crucial Ballistics 2x2gb
HIS 3870x2
1tb WD HDD

Your PSU must not be up to the task!!

Yes. Your issue would suggest the PSU is responsible; particularly as your processor stabilized at 3.6GHz, compared to its original 3.8GHz.

Basically, the increased power draw of the overclock conflicted with the addition of the new card and its power draw; your PSU would seem to be the limiting factor, based on that change.

Buy a Sparkle!!!!

They run great, but sometimes the fans are really loud. The Manga 900 Watt allows me to OC my 955 to 3.7. Usually about 160 on the Egg.

Yeah, it is annoying, my 955 BE is beaten by the 940, BUT, my 8GB of DDR3 RAM is very verrrry nice.
