Phenom is theoretically going to be backwards compatible with am2 boards - theoretically.
you need to update the bios of the board to phenom compatible one and you must ensure your board supports phenom. otherwise, i would go with q6600 any day. performs much better, doesn't have the TLB problem like the new phenoms, its not exactly a "true single die quad core" but i dont really care about that because i doubt one will see the dfference anyways. besides, they clock better if you want to overclock. TLB problem: http://techreport.com/articles.x/13741 Compatibility with AM2 "problem" http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/12...m_motherboards/ Toms Hardware CPU charts: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html Comparisson Phenom VS q6600 http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2...2=871&chart=435 I'm done. i doubt there is much more to say ![]()

interactive CPU charts.
The q6600 can also oc - much better than phenoms mind you. people usually get ~ 3 ghz minimum on the Q6600s plus you dont need to worry about losing 10-25% performance due to a TLB patch. take that into consideration i doubt you can say WOOOHOOO PHENOM FTW!!!!!! because the phenom 9700 is beaten by the Q6600 already at stock speeds - the Q6600 probably overclocks further in terms of mhz than the phenom - thus the only reasonw hy you would go with phenom is if you dont want to buy a new board and that your current board supports phenom. |

FRAPs or FPS
FPS is mostly GPU dependent. Fraps is cpu dependent Answer to both is Yes, depending on the GPU of course. if you have a geforce 6200, you probably wotn get that much more fps - close to none in fact. but if you have a triple sli config - the q6600 will provide less of a bottleneck than the phenom. |

fraps is a program used for getting screenshots and creating videos from your game. fps is frames per second (fraps can actually display this while running).
