Dualcore vs single core
sorry but have to ask.... i know dual core means two cores but.... speed.. how does that work does that mean that GHZ are divided meaning 3.0 ghz core is 2X1.5 ghz processors or two 3.0 ghz processors if so why does it make a big difference in gaming? how does OC work does that mean that both core are overclocked?

If it is a 2gig dual-core pc then both cores will be 2gig (making 4gig in total).
The dual-core cpu is for multitasking so you wouldnt see any real benefit gaming, unless you were running other apps while gaming (like folding at home for example....like i do). Overclocking is similiar to single core and simple to do if you have a decent motherboard.

be aware of hyperthreading on single core CPU's it may look like dual core cpu's as far as windows is concerned...

Dual core
I have had a single core and am just now upgrading to a dual core in my 939 socket board. I do online gaming.
I am upgrading to dual core so that while on-line gaming I can multi-task more efficiently. I have lots of apps and programs running while gaming including, voip, teamspeak, messenger.. so and and so forth. I hear that dual core will improve my ability to multi-task so while I can still find a socket 939 dual core I am going for it! Shadowryder1 |

i am still using a 32bit version of win XP home so... your saying that i will not be able to use the multitasking part of a dual core socket939 if i don't go 64bit?

As many have said, its for multi tasking.
When I upgraded my Pentium 4 to Core 2, it was a huge difference, especially since I multi task a lot. I recommend going for dual core now, because of there drop in price. An Intel E4300 is VERY cheap and gives great performance for the price. And, AMD dual core processors are even cheaper. Unless you are REALLY tight on budget, extremely tight, then I see no reason not go go with a dual core. |
