CPU Temp THROUGH THE ROOF!

Hey Guys,

I have an ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe mobo with a AMD X2 64 4800+.

Everything has been great until the other day I was playing and the computer just shut off. I rebooted it, and it shut off again.

I downloaded Everest Home edition and noticed that the CPU temps are going to 80 degrees under a load. I checked bios and it idles at 41 degrees. But once windows and the other apps load up it hangs around 60-65. When a heavy processor based game like Counterstrike comes on...it shoots to 80 and shuts down.

So my first thought was to reseat the cpu make sure the thermal paste is good. I did that, still the same issue.

Then I bought a new HUGE Zalman hs and fan...still doing it. I took the side of the case off and put a 17" house fan blowing into the case...same issue. I have a antec 900 case and it has way too many fans in it for it to be a cooling issue.

Then I bought a brand new proc, same issues.

Now that I have a brand new hs+f, my psu is new, a new proc...what else could it be?

My thought is the only thing left is the mobo...so I just wanted to check with everyone before I dished out another $200.

Maybe the sensors on the board are going bad?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!!!

My only thought is to make sure that the thermal paste is applied correctly. On that note, NEVER trust onboard sensors - the only accurate reading will be through a temperature probe.

As always, here's the article I wrote on this topic: Measuring Temperatures with Thermal Probes and External Sensors. Be sure to check it out.

Should I just go into bios and raise the shutoff temp to something ridiculous to see what happens?

*Edit. I just ordered a new MOBO instead to see if that fixes it. If it doesnt I'll just have to send it back.
