Intel is about to be planted... http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041019/athlon64_4000-16.html http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20050725/athlon_64_fx-03.html The Chips talked about in this article are not even the best as they don't cover the FX57, FX59 or any of the Dual Cores, The final mastering of the FX57 & FX59 was done by two Engineers AMD picked up that jumped the Intel ship and the have done a few things on the Dual Cores as-well. I remember someone flaming me for saying that AMD would break 3.2 Ghz in four quarters from last quarter. It was in real life not in a forum but now I lol and admen that the may break 3.8 by the end of next year... well "may" is not the word because I have money on it. |

Yes those benchmarks for the first article are impressive. It didn't cover the FX59 because the FX59 isn't gonna be released until later this year. In a lot of the encoding benchmarks that were tested the AMDs come out ahead. But what is really impressive is that the dual core AMD beats out the dual core intel in every single encoding benchmark (except for lame mp3 encoding where it loses by only 5 seconds) and absolutely destroys it in games. But I wouldn't hold my breath on AMD breaking 3.8GHz in the next year. They might get close but they won't get 3.8... the current world record for an overclocked AMD is something like 4GHz... and thats with phase change and not even close to stable.

the record for a pentium M is around 4.1Ghz and they are faster per clock at short pipeline tests (gaming, general use), enough said
![]() looks like things have changed, AMD beats Intel at encoding and Intel beats AMD at gaming, I'm surprised the X2 beat the Dual cored prescotts at encoding though... |

What do you mean? AMD hasn't had a better gaming CPU since the willamette vs those early XPs.
you know northwood vs barton k7 dothan vs K8 but the X2 is 2x2.4GHz, the dual core prescott is 2x3.2Ghz at comparable clocks, we can use the entire pipeline with encoding, the prescott should win. |
