I would have to disagree, with the recent release of the 6000+ its a slightly faster chip (3GHz compared to 2.8GHz, yes GHz isn't everything, but it is when they are almost identical chips
), no unlocked multiplier but a great chip and is about about $450 on newegg while the FX-62 is only around $350, but don't know how much it will cost in a UK store.

In that case, 6000+ for AM2 and FX-62 for 939. |

whats the best Athlon 64 FX CPU?
for socket 939 = FX-60 (2.6ghz, 2Mb cache) £400 for socket am2 = FX-62 (2.8ghz, 2Mb cache) £280 for socket 1207/F = FX-74 (3.0Ghz, 1Mb cache) £330 Socket 939 uses DDR ram. AM2 and Socket F use ddr2. Athlon fx's on a sockety 1207 are only for a certain asus mobo. costs around £280 so not a viable option unless you want two fx-74's! Best gaming cpus now are core 2 based, so allendale or conroe cores. Easily overclockable. I would reccomend a 965 or 650i chipset for them, unless you need fancy stuff that the others have. Best AMD systems are usally revolve around overclocked opterons with good steppings and weeks. Then things get complex. Hope this helps. - Paul |

Actually with the release of the 4600+ through 6000+ chips AMD has really made a huge step forward in catching up with intel. The chips that compete are really neck and neck price and performance. AMD just lacks a bit in the benchmarks but in real world performance they are right there.
