that is extremely hard to find, but easy to do.
your best bet is to simply change the thermal paste to arctic silver 5 or arcti silver ceramique, which usually lowers temperatures quite a bit. atleast it did on mine. mine was a combination of quite a few mods, but worth the 20 degrees celcius drop. as for the adapter, you can go to any electronics store, they should have some. you could even get one of the universal adapters with variable voltage so you could tune down the speed when you dont need it to lower the volume. Do make sure that it IS a DC adapter and that it has enough amperage for the fan. i almost bought an ac adapter because i didnt pay attention, i just read 12 volts. ![]() you can also do this "mod" to a bigger (120mm lets say) fan. pushes more air and is quieter. this is what arctic silver 5 is: http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm be aware that you would have to open up the laptop, which usually involves voiding the warranty (although i didnt find any warranty sticker on mine) as well as potential loss of screws (there were like 20 on mine - insane amount of screws) plus its not necessarily easy to figure it all out. the first time i opened mine i got stuck because i couldnt get to a screw which was under the keyboard - for which you had to remove the whole lcd assembly - including the wifi cables which are integrated into the lcd - just to get to the motherboard on which rests the blower fan. reassembling it wasnt fun either, figuring out which screw goes where and all that. @_@

holy crap.
if you want to know why your cpu is going real hot, thats your answer. i have to say that no, your friend is wrong, and taht thermal paste is a MUST in any system. only systems that dont need thermal paste are the old pentium ones and previous. toothpaste is for the teeth, not for computers. why else would it be called "tooth" paste? essentially, Go Get AS5 ASAP. ![]() |

As for laptops, most laptops I've seen have very intricate heat moving technology in place. We're not talking about a standard heatsink/cooler. And for the record, I install thermal compound in laptops as well.

shit.I read something about toothpastes working as a thermal paste, cant remember where though. What would happen to the processor if it doesnt have the proper thermal paste?
And my local computer store doesnt have any thermal pastes unfortunately, which means iam gonna have to hunt for another computeer shop elsewhere .In the mean time,do i have to keep my laptop shutdown to prevent any more damage? |

I went to 5 different computer shops, and only 1 had arctic silver 5.
Applied it as soon as i got home, and now the idle temp is about 40-47, and on heavy load max is 65~68,which is abit lower. On the way of getting the thermal paste,i got a notebook cooler, which dramatically decreased the temperatures by exactly 10C* on load, which is great for when iam playing games. Thanx for the help everyone ![]() |
