Anyone ever see the latest Memory tests for the Phenom vs the Quad Core Intel Core 2's? I'll summarize, Intel got smoked... so yes the mighty Intel does have some flaws that AMD chips surpass, this enables AMD to build a -300$ Quad Core Chip and have it be only 3-8% slower, resulting in 3-5FPS loss, the question is, how much are those 3-5 frames per second worth to you? As far as the rest of the tests, I haven't zipped a file or done any of the things they tested the two with in probably over 2 years,

In general, the memory subsystem of the new AMD chips is much better than Intel's implementation; however, in terms of raw computing power, Intel Core chips take the cake.

Something I don't believe I'll ever use.... Raw computing power doesn't seem to show up in games too well.

Memory bandwidth is lower on a intel chip solely because of our old pal known as Front Side Bus.

i am also a long going AMD user. I have now however move to Intel until the get something out that competes well in the overclock section. The Phenom looks great clock for clock, but they just don't clock up enough.

On the point of Intel and AMD, i would still say AMD have a advantage as the number of cores increase. This however is when we start to link 8+ cores together. reason being is at that point, the FSB becomes a issue with intel cpu's and the AMD HTT just keeps going with it's links.

Overall, Intel is quicker in the desktop segment at the moment. There competitive at the lower end and midrange, but top performance comes from Intel. Shame cause i like AMD products.

The FSB issue i resolved by running it at 1800mhz. with 900mhz ram in dual channel thats all i need. Also running a quad core at 3.6ghz gives you best of both worlds.

thats my personal view. Shall leave this now. see other peoples views on this. I did some stuff about the architechtures in a earlier post.

Well, concerning the legacy based FSB from intel.....

With Nehalem, Intel will be introducing a new socket. The desktop flavors code named "Bloomfield" will be anywhere from one to eight cores. The new chipsets will be doing away w/ the legacy based FSB and replacing it with Intel QuickPath Interconnect.

This alone will make up for the "FSB handicap" that current Intel CPU's have.

On a side note, I am going to assume that the Intel Quad Core you are comparing is the 65nm Kentsfield. When the 45nm Q9xxx series hits in a couple of weeks there will be no comparison, except for price. The AMD Phenom will be $100 cheaper but as w/ everything you get what you pay for.

Spikep agrees: good info for the thread, and yes. Q6600 is what i was referring to :P
