I want to upgrade to this:
AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Processor
But I noticed that that one is an AM3 socket processor. Will my mobo AM2 socket be able to support an AM3 socket processor?
The reason for the upgrade is that I think my current processor is bottlenecking my 8800 GTS card. My friend suggested a new processor. | The EASIEST way to find out, what is the model of your motherboard and see whether it is compatible with AM3 cpu's. Unless you have something that is made by gateway, HP, dell, etc then you may need to look for additional info.
Just because an AM2 cpu works in there it doesnt mean an AM3 will unfortunately. The safest bet is going from an AM2 to an AM2.
Any other AM related you need to tell us the motherboard model or the PC make if its HP, Dell etc etc
