5800+ vs 6000+

Hey there folks...long time no post. Deploying to Iraq constantly will do that to ya! hehe

I'm looking to upgrade and have decided on either a 5800+ or 6000+ dual core. Both are rated at 3.0GHz and the only difference I can see is between the cache if I'm correct. Only a $10 price diff. Is it worth it overall? I only play WoW and the occasional Half-Life 2. No mega-processing intensive programs either.

Opinions?

When it came time to order they had two 6000+ chips. One was a 65nm chip at 3.0GHz with 2MB cache while the other was a 45nm chip at 3.1GHz and only 1MB cache...with a $60 difference. Well, I'm a cheapskate so I went with the cheaper one. hehe 3.1GHz an d 1MB cache sounds good to me! hehe

There is no 45nm based 6000+ yet.

The only 45nm AMD chips available are the Phenom II's.

Quite frankly the best dual core to go for right now would be the 7750. Especially if you don't mind doing some overclocking

ACK!!! hehe Meant 90nm and 65nm. Oops.

Since you brought up the 7750, could you explain the new numbering and how those are better than the old system? I mean, I just looked up the 7750 and it's a 2.7GHz...but it does say something about the multipliers being unlocked. Are these really much better CPUs that have been "throttled" down?

They are faster chips.

GHz means nothing, the 7750 is a newer chip, it also has an unlocked multiplier so if you are comfortable at all with overclocking you can get it running quite a bit faster than then 6000+.

For example I have a 5400+ Black Edition, runs at 2.8ghz stock, the 7750 is 2.7ghz stock, yet it is a faster chip. It's just a new chip and it is more effective clock for clock.
