Benchmarking Continued: Ok, lets checkout one of the newer games based off the Q3 engine. Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. If your a true Star Wars fan, or just love FPS's, you'll definitely want to give this game a look. It's absolutely beautiful to look at, and the game play simply rocksl.

When firing up JKII, I change VIDEO options to High Quality and only adjusted the resolution thereafter. Here is the video setup screen to check for reference.

Ok. JKII is showing us that it is a little bit more stressful than Quake3. Amazingly enough however, is that the game is VERY playable at 1280 x 1024 resolution with 2x and Quincunx FSAA enabled. This is no easy feat. Moving up to 4x starts to put the hurt on. Even 1600 x 1200 is reasonably playable with 2x and Quincunx, but 4x is totally out of the question. BTW, if your running this game and happen to have an SBAudigy. Download CL's EAX Enhanced HD. Trust me, you'll thank me later.
If your wanting to benchmark this game, here is a quick "how-to". I searched high and low to find the right combination of commands, and want to give a big thanks out to my friend Ninja-Wan in the JediSanctuary forums. It seemed everyone knew bits and pieces of how to properly benchmark the game, but putting it all together and getting it to work was quite a hassle. Here's how it goes.
Start up a MP session of JKII
Bring up the Command Console by pressing Shift/Tilde key
Type in "devmap ffa_bespin" without the quotes
It'll take a moment to load up. Then hit escape.
Pullup your Console again and type timedemo 1, then type disco
Type demo jk2ffa and let the benchmark run with your chosen settings and resolution
When the demo is finished, pullup your console again and tap your Page Up key until you see your FPS count. Viola!
Whew! It was a real pain at first, but once you get the hang of it, it'll become second nature. Maybe the guys who hooked us up with Q3Bench can get it to also run JKII for us poor souls. I can't express how sweet that little program is for benchmarking Q3. Ok, lets checkout CodeCult's CodeCreatures Demo.
CodeCreatures
Codecreatures is a new benchmark released by the CodeCult group. This program is a stand alone game engine to be used by developers for various applications. It is currently downloadable to the public in benchmarking form and is somewhat reminiscent of the Nature portion of 3DMark2k1. The water in this demo is absolutely breathtaking, and have no doubt, this program WILL put the smack down on your system as seen below.

As you can gather from the benchmarks above. This benchmark is quite a load to handle for the eVGA GeForce4 Ti 4400. Even with no FSAA enabled. Lets take a look at 2x FSAA.

OK, at 2x the card is not reaching anything resembling a decent frame rate. I'm not even going to try 4x for fear the card might simply blow up while trying to complete a cycle of Codecreatures.

Finally, lets checkout the tried and true 3DMark2001 benchmark. This is where the nVidia based GF4 Ti series truly excels over all other video cards currently on the market. Fortunately, I was able to obtain a GF3 Ti200 long enough to run some quick 3DMarks in order to give a comparison to the eVGA GF4 Ti4400. Of course we don't expect the GF3 to withstand the power of the GF4, but in order to show an improvement factor, we felt it would be a good comparison.

I benchmarked both cards at stock CPU SPeeD's of 1.6 and overclocked @2.13GHz in order to show improvements with increase in CPU clock. The GF3 shows a 15% increase when going from 1.6 to 2.13GHz CPU speed, while the GF4 shows nearly a 20% increase! Showing the NV25 chipset scales quite a bit better than the aging NV20. Additionally, when I overclocked the GF4 we see over a 500 point increase. Not bad at all from simply overclocking the card. Bear in mind all 3DMark runs were made with video card settings at default with the only changes being made in Core and Memory clock when overclocking. No tweaks or visual adjustments were touched.
