The Graphics Card - Installing a Graphics Card
(Page 7 of 11 )
Installing a graphics card is a simple affair. If you’ve installed a PCI card or even an ancient ISA card, it will be old hat. Don’t forget to be static-safe! See Chapter 2 to learn how to handle sensitive equipment, such as a graphics card, safely.
1. Open up your system. Locate the AGP slot (Figure 3-5); it’s usually a brown slot between the row of white PCI slots and the processor.

2. Locate the contacts on the graphics card (Figure 3-6). The contacts will slide neatly down into the slot.

3. Remove the metal cover that corresponds with the AGP slot from the back of the PC by removing its screw and popping it out. Slide the graphics card carefully into place, with the metal gate taking the place of the cover you removed. Apply firm pressure evenly across the card until it’s completely seated, as seen in Figure 3-7. Then, replace the screw to secure the AGP card in place.
