Sapphire X300SE - Results
These tests were run with a resolution of 1024 x 786 with minimum eye candy. This isn’t exactly all bling-blinged out for gaming, but playable. The results show that with these settings, these games are playable for the most part.
Overclocking really didn’t make that big of a difference. It gave us only a handful of more FPS in most games. When you weigh the pros and cons of overclocking, it really doesn’t seem to be worth it here. When you overclock, you loose the warranty and heat becomes a big problem. If you want a gaming card, buy a gaming card.
If you’re looking to only do some minor gaming, these results should show you that this is capable of playing games. The older games should do great with this card, but the newer games will run on low detail and medium resolutions. Buying a game and not running the eye candy can be disappointing
Conclusion
The Sapphire X300SE is a decent card for the money. It can be found online for about $60. Will this card be anywhere close to the 6800’s or the X800’s? No way. Butit isn’t meant to be. The high end cards are meant for gamers, while the lower end cards, like this one, are meant for people who need a video card and don’t want to spend a whole lot of money. This card is one of the cheapest PCI-Express video cards available, and still offers decent performance.
HyperMemory saves money, but it isn’t as fast as the memory on the card. If you want a gaming video card, then save your money and get another. If you have just upgraded to a motherboard with PCI-Express and need a transitional video card until you can get a better one, then this is your card. It will hold you over until then, and it's also be able to feed your gaming crave until then. If you don’t game, then this is a perfect match for you.
