Rosewill X800 XL - Cooling and Overclocking

    Cooling

This card has a built in thermometer. If you go and grab Rivatuner, you can see the temperature readings from your card. ATI Tool also has the capabilities built in. Here is a little comparison of the temperatures of this card.

Not too shabby. There is the evidence that the card doesn't need a 2 slot cooler. Though the fan got a little loud, it kept the card cool during testing. As for cooling the memory, I would say it cools half of the RAM properly.

    Overclocking

The biggest difference between the X800 XL, the high end X800 XT, and X850 XT is clock speed. If you can overclock to speeds of the high end cards, you should get the same results as the high end cards. ATI didn't make it easy to overclock it to XT speeds though. The memory isn't rated as high and the core is under-volted. If you want to volt mod the card, and apply some better cooling, the speeds aren't unreachable.

The stock speed for the X800 XL is 400 MHz core and 980 MHz for the memory. The X800 XT is rated at 520 MHz core and 1000 MHz memory. The performance won't be terribly different at this level, and when overclocking the difference will become minimal. Using ATI Tool, I found the new overclocked speeds with the auto settings. I managed 430 MHz on the core and 530 MHz on the memory. Clock speeds will improve with more cooling, but these results are with stock cooling.
