Radeon 9600XT by ASUS Review - Performance Benchmarks

    FutureMark 3DMark 2001 SE

The first benchmark I ran is the first one many other people run, which is 3DMark 2001 SE, the classic DirectX 8.1 benchmark, and the de facto standard in video card benchmarking.

    Radeon

I liked the score of 13,406 for a default run of the Radeon 9600XT, but I was the recipient of 201 free 3DMarks for playing with the driver's detail settings. That may sound like a lot, but it is only a 1.5% increase.

    3DMark03

Second on the list of popular benchmarks is 3DMark03. I like this one a lot better because it is not as dependent on the rest of the system than 3DMark 2001SE and is DirectX 9.0 based.

    Radeon

Where I was able to get a 1.5% increase by changing the detail levels in the driver for 3DMark 2001SE, I got 2% increase in performance in 3DMark03. The problem is, you can't feel a 2% increase.

    AquaMark3

AquaMark3 is a new DirectX 9 based benchmark that is based on the Krass engine. Krass is going into the next AquaNox game, and performance here should be indicative of performance in AquaNox 2.

    Radeon

A free extra 80 points isn't bad anytime all you had to do was click a button, but when its 80 points on top of 31,431, its not a lot to celebrate about.  However, both of those scores slide me into the #5 slot in the DevHardware stats for AquaMark3, and I really can't complain much about that either.
