ProLink PixelView GeForce FX5900XT Golden Limited Review - The Chip, Cables, and Test Setup Details
(Page 4 of 9 )

The PixelView FX 5900XT uses HY5DU283222A Hynix memory chips. They are rated at 2.8ns, which translates into a theoretical speed of 357 MHz. The memory comes stock clocked at 350 MHz DDR or 700 MHz so it is just under the spec speed.

This is the extension cable for the temperature and fan speed display and the 5 1/4" panel if you want to mount the display in a drive bay.

The accessories that come with the PixelView FX 5900XT are a DVI-VGA adapter, power splitter, S-Video to RCA converter, and RCA cable.
Other bundled items are an user's manual, PowerDVD, drivers, and a Prolink overclocking utility.
Test Setup
The latest ForceWare drivers from NVIDIA are version 56.72 (WHQL). I will be using these for the review. The default 2D and 3D speeds for the FX 5900XT are 300/700 and 390/700. For comparison, the FX 5700 Ultra is 300/906 and 475/906. As we will see, the FX 5900XT's 256-bit memory bus more than makes up for the lower clock speeds. Today's test setup will be:
Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz "B" @ 3.06GHz (170 FSB)
Abit IS7 (i865P), F1 GAT setting
2 x 512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 Dual Channel (DDR340 2-6-2-2)
2 x 40GB Western Digital WD400BB in RAID 0 array
Windows XP SP1 with DirectX 9.0b
Prolink PixelView FX 5900XT Golden Limited - 390/700MHz (default) using Forceware 56.72
MSI FX5700 Ultra-TD128 - 475/906MHz (default) using Forceware 53.03
FIC Radeon 9600Pro 128MB - 479.25/796.5MHz (overclocked) using Catalyst 3.7
Driver settings:
NVIDIA - image settings at Quality, D3D Mipmap Detail Level at Best image quality
ATI - texture preferences and mipmap detail level both at High Quality, quality AF used
Both - vsync off, 60Hz refresh rate.
As a substitute for the Radeon 9600XT, we have an overclocked Radeon 9600 Pro. The first four tests utilize built-in benchmarking functions while the latter games use FRAPS to record frame rate of a manual run-through.
