To overclock the MSI FX5700 Ultra-TD128, I used the coolbits registry patch to enable the Clock Frequencies tab. I then used the auto-detect button to find a starting point:
At this setting, I received intermittent visual artifacts in Far Cry and Halo. Take this screencap, for example:
Dropping the core clock to 540MHz fixed these problems. 540/1050 was the final highest stable overclock this card would reach.
With this extra 65MHz core boost and 144MHz memory boost, the FX5700U is able to jump from performing a little bit worse to a little bit better than the overclocked R9600Pro in Halo, and stay on average above 30FPS. It’s with games like Halo that overclocking video cards actually becomes practical, and this free jump in performance can make a difference and is appreciated.
