    MSI FX5700 Ultra TD128 - MSI 5700 Ultra-TD128

    MSI 5700 Ultra-TD128

The box the MSI 5700U comes in immediately catches the eye. The box art ranks as one of the coolest I've seen, and the shiny large MSI name definitely stands out. In the top right corner, you immediately see some of the features of the MSI 5700U-TD128: a 10 CD software pack including 10 games and 21 utilities, D.O.T. for Dynamic Overclocking Technology, 128MB DDRII, TV-out, and DVI-I.

Flipping over to the back reveals a picture of the card and more information on its features.

Speaking of features, here’s a full list:

    CineFX Shading Architecture

    1. Support for DX 9.0 Pixel/Vertex Shader 2.0+
    2. Advanced pixel shaders allow floating-point pixel shader operations to run 2x faster (CineFX 2.0)
    3. Very long pixel programs up to 1024 instructions
    4. Very long vertex programs with up to 256 static instructions and up to 65536 instructions executed before termination
    5. Looping and subroutines with up to 256 loops per vertex program
    6. Subroutines in shader programs
    7. Dynamic flow control
    8. Conditional write masking
    9. Conditional execution
    10. Procedural shading
    11. Full instruction set for vertex and pixel programs
    12. Z-correct bump-mapping
    13. Hardware-accelerated shadow effects with shadow buffers
    14. UltraShadow technology to accelerate shadow computations
    15. Two-sided stencil
    16. Programmable matrix palette skinning
    17. Keyframe animation
    18. Custom lens effects: fish eye, wide angle, fresnel effects, water refraction

    High-Performance, High-Precision, 3D Rendering Engine

    1. Up to 8 pixels per clock rendering engine
    2. 128-bit, studio-quality floating point precision through the entire graphics pipeline
    3. Native support for 128-bit floating point, 64-bit floating point and 32-bit integer rendering modes
    4. Up to 16 textures per pass
    5. Support for sRGB texture format for gamma textures
    6. DirectX and S3TC texture compression

    High-Performance 2D Rendering Engine

    1. Optimized for 32-, 24-, 16-, 15- and 8-bpp modes
    2. True-color, 64x64 hardware cursor with alpha
    3. Multi-buffering (double, triple or quad) for smooth animation and video playback

    Intellisample Technology

    1. Blistering-fast antialiasing performance
    2. Adaptive texture filtering
    3. Support for advanced loss-less compression algorithms for both color and z data
    4. Fast Z-clear
    5. Intellisample HCT extends performance and quality gains to higher resolutions and frame rates

Display Pipeline with Full nView Capabilities

    1. Dual, 400MHz RAMDACs for display resolutions up to and including 2048x1536@85Hz
    2. Integrated NTSC/PAL TV encoder support resolutions up to 1024x768 without the need for panning with built-in Macrovision copy protection
    3. DVD and HDTV-ready MPEG-2 decoding up to 1920x1080i resolutions
    4. DVI support for compatibility with nextgeneration flat panel displays with resolutions up to and including 1600x1200
    5. NVIDIA® NVRotate™ application for advanced viewing flexibility
    6. NVIDIA® NVKeystone™ application for advanced display correction

    Digital Vibrance control (DVC) 3.0

    1. DVC color controls
    2. DVC image sharpening controls

Rocket Science for a system-level solution

    1. 0.13u process technology for higher levels of integration and higher operating clock speeds
    2. Copper vias and wiring
    3. Advanced thermal monitoring and thermal management
    4. AGP 8X including Fast Writes and sideband addressing

Again, with the exception of the greater memory bus and higher clock speeds, the 5700U is just a 5950U.
