MSI FX5700 Ultra TD128
While ATI and NVIDIA are constantly battling for that much acclaimed, imaginary high-end performance crown awarded by graphics gurus and reviewers, the mainstream market still remains relatively important for both the manufacturer and the consumer. Not everyone has the money or the necessity to own a 9800XT or 5950U, and so it is important that ATI and NVIDIA release mainstream accelerators that are both profitable and valuable to the consumer. Today, we're looking at the 5700 Ultra-TD128, a $209 (USD) video card that's more in-line with what most people are looking to put in their systems, both in features and price.

The release of the GeForceFX 5700 Ultra last October marks NVIDIA's reentry into the mainstream graphics market. The previous 5600Ultra clearly could not handle DirectX9 applications as well as the competition, despite being touted as "designed for DirectX 9," and guaranteeing "powerful 3D experiences, with blazingly fast performance." The 5700U however, based entirely off NV35 technology, supports CineFX 2.0 for advanced pixel shaders, floating-point shader operations, and greater vertex processing power. Basically, the 5700U is a 5950U with a 128-bit memory interface with a lower core and memory clock.
