Inno3D GeForce 6800 Review - Testing - UT2K3, Call of Duty
(Page 6 of 10 )
Unreal Tournament 2003 (DirectX 8.1)
We have yet to switch over to UT2K4 because the games are so graphically similar. UT2K4 can be more graphically stressful, especially in the new Onslaught maps that are usually large, open environments, but the basic performance of the video cards we are testing does not shift between UT2K3 and 2K4. We ran "high quality" tests at 1280x1024 32-bit color with 2x AA and 8x AF.

All three cards tested handle Unreal at this resolution and IQ very well, though the 6800 sits on top by a significant margin. Any competitive UT gamer looking for a high framerate with respectable visual quality will be just fine with any of these cards.

Stepping anti-aliasing up to 4x decreases performance across the board by about 10 FPS, which is certainly an acceptable hit for 4x AA.
Call of Duty (OpenGL)
Call of Duty has quickly become the top WWII shooter surpassing Medal of Honor and old mods like Day of Defeat. The game runs on the Quake 3 engine and as many gamers will tell you, its multiplayer aspect is like a fast paced Counter-Strike. I have only played single player and the speedy action and enjoyable voiceovers actually deliver a fairly immersive experience. Of course, in order for any game to be immersive, there needs to be enjoyable visual quality with a steady framerate.

At the base test setting 1280x1024 2x8x, the Inno3D 6800 simply wallops the others. It looks like the 6800 is a very strong OpenGL performer, at least with the Q3 engine which is used in many games. We were able to boost IQ settings to the maximum 4x AA 16x AF and STILL get better performance than the 9800 XT. Although from different generations, this is still a really impressive feat for the 6800 considering the two cards are so similarly priced.
