    Inno3D GeForce 6800 Review - Testing - X2 Threat, Splinter Cell

X2 Threat Rolling Demo (DirectX 8.1)

Let's begin with a straightforward DX8 benchmark that stresses 3D shadows and bump mapping, X2 Threat Rolling Demo.

    Inno3D GeForce 6800 Review

NVIDIA's UltraShadow II technology is clearly giving the Inno3D 6800 a tremendous boost in this shadow stressing test. Just as the 9800XT one ups NVIDIA's previous "bottom of high-end" solutions, the 5900XT, the new bottom of high-end 6800 performs admirably better than the 9800XT in X2 Threat.

    Splinter Cell (DirectX 8.1)

Splinter Cell is also a shadow heavy game. The demo used for benchmarking, recorded on level "The Caspian Oil Refinery," stresses fillrate and shading efficiency. AA and AF were disabled.

    Inno3D GeForce 6800 Review

One thing we learned from the X2 Threat benchmark was that the 6800 excels in bump mapping and shadows. The results in Splinter Cell reconfirm this. While the 9800XT has a faster core and memory clock than the 6800, the 6800's additional four rendering pipelines and optimizations clearly make up the difference and then some. The 6800 brings 1280x1024 gaming in Splinter Cell one level up in comparison to the 9800XT.
