    Inno3D GeForce 6800 Review - Test Setup

The latest ForceWare drivers from NVIDIA are version 61.77. These were released just a few days after the WHQL 61.76 driver and the two are virtually identical; the 61.77 version simply adds DirectX9.0c "support." I phrase it like that because 61.76 worked fine with 9.0c. In any case, tests with the Inno3D 6800 will be run with ForceWare 61.77. The default 2D and 3D speeds for the 6800 are both 300/700 so the 6800 does not throttle between 2D and 3D modes. Today's test setup will be:

    • Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz "B" @ 3.06GHz (170 FSB)
    • Abit IS7 (i865P), F1 GAT setting
    • 2 x 512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 Dual Channel (DDR340 2-6-2-2)
    • 2 x 40GB Western Digital WD400BB in RAID 0 array
    • Windows XP SP1 with DirectX 9.0c
    • Inno3D GeForce 6800 @ 325/700MHz (default) using ForceWare 61.77
    • ATI Radeon 9800XT @ 412/730MHz (default) using Catalyst 4.7
    • Prolink PixelView FX 5900XT Golden Limited - 390/700MHz (default) using Forceware 56.72

    Driver settings:

    • NVIDIA - image settings at Quality, vsync off, 60Hz refresh rate
    • ATI - texture preferences and mipmap detail level both at High Quality, quality AF used, vsync off, 60Hz refresh rate

A note on interpreting graphs: In some of the tests, it simply did not make sense to only test the 6800 at the same resolution and IQ as the other cards. Therefore when looking at graphs, understand that the base resolution and IQ settings tested are written in the title of each graph and in the cases where the 6800 was also tested with higher settings, the alternate settings are noted in the key.
