Gigabyte X800 Pro Review - Testing: Far Cry, Halo, NFSU

    Far Cry v1.1 (DirectX 9.0)

Unfortunately, the final Far Cry 1.2 patch with Shader Model 3.0 support still has not been released yet. FRAPS was used to find frame rate during one specific, repeatable section of the game. The cards were tested using the game's default detail options.

Once again, the 6800 is faster than the X800 Pro. Upping the resolution and maxing out IQ barely has any effect on the 6800's framerate. The X800 Pro however, dips to 17 FPS which is obviously not a good thing. Remember however, this is at 1280x1024 with maximum image quality settings. For the absolute smoothest fragging experience, 1024x768 is where it's at.

    Halo (DirectX 9.0)

FRAPS was used to benchmark Halo. We sped through a beach level atop a warthog, where enemies and enemy fire fill the screen. All graphics settings were enabled and particles and texture quality set to high.

The 6800 is about 6 FPS faster than the X800 Pro at 1024x768. Increasing the resolution brings down this gap in performance to 3 FPS. Both cards are better off playing Halo at 1024x768 however, in order to keep FPS above 30 FPS.

Need For Speed: Underground (DirectX 9.0)

We FRAPSed one lap around Olympic Square, with detail settings left to the game's default.

    Gigabyte X800 Pro Review

The X800 Pro is very strong in NFSU. Increasing IQ from 2x8x to 4x16x has no impact on its framerate, whereas the 6800's average FPS drops considerably. Framerate tops off at 60 FPS for both video cards because the game locks maximum FPS at that point.
