    FIC A92 Radeon 9200 64MB - More Benchmarking

    Code Creatures

This D3D benchmark is a KILLER for any system. Running in 1028x768, 32bit color, the numbers show all:

Neither the 9200 or the Ti4200 can perform better than 30FPS. Furthermore, the Ti4200 performs almost two times better than the 9200. Is the 9200 really still the budget video card you're looking for? Let's keep going.

    DroneZmarK

Finally, an OpenGL benchmark! Needless to say, the 9200's performance is still lackluster. Tests were performed in 1280x1024 resolution in both "Generic Fast" and "Generic High Quality" presets from within DroneZmark.

Being an older DX benchmark, originally aimed at testing the GeForce 3, the 9200 is able to squeak past 100FPS. Again, image quality settings don't seem to play much of an impact.

    GLExcess

Here's a quick full fledged benchmark, similar to 3DMark but utilizing OpenGL. It was run in 1024x768, 32bit color.

The 9200 is able to compete with the Ti4200 in this case which suggests the CPU is playing a larger role in the scores. Bumping IQ from performance to quality drops a good 200 points for the FIC 9200.

    Unreal Tournament 2003

What better than to round out our tests with Unreal Tournament! If the FIC 9200 can run UT2k3 smoothly, what more can one ask for from a budget video card? I used HardOCP's UT2K3 Benchmark v2.1 and tested 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024 in both low and high quality presets.

The important trend to notice here is that running one resolution at low quality yields more FPS than one resolution lower but at high quality for both the 9200 and the Ti4200. The 9200 is simply not enough horsepower to run at high res and with high image quality. Antalus, the more stressful, outdoor map makes the 9200 crap in its pants at 1280x1024 high quality! Then again, it makes me crap my pants to see the 9200 able to pull above 100FPS at 1028x768 low quality, which is IMO the ideal setting for any fast paced, competitive first person shoot'n.

The FIC 9200 does not have the strength to run Unreal under any anti-aliasing at an acceptable frame rate; although not shown, under 4x AA the FPS dipped below 10fps for all three maps on both resolutions tested! AA and the 9200 simply do not mix.
