Chaintech SA6600G Video Card Review - Half Life 2, Need for Speed

    Half Life 2

This is another game that was kind to the Radeon. It was able to chug along at 1024x768 with 2xAA on, while the 6600GT trumped that with 4xAA and 8xAF. This is an absolutely stellar looking game, and even more so when you can turn on all the trickery, not to mention the addition of the DX9 effects for the water.

    Need For Speed Underground 2

I remember the original "Need For Speed," way, way back in the day. Those two games don't have much in common, and neither do these two cards when playing the new version. While the graph itself looks evenly matched, the hidden difference is that the Radeon 8500 was playing on 800x600, with just about every glitzy feature turned off, while the 6600GT was roaming the streets at 1024x768 2xAA 8xAF and all of the game details turned up. Both cards did struggle with the volumetric smoke though; doing donuts will cause them to choke as if they were breathing in the burnt rubber.

       · First off, nice review. Only thing I would like to mention is, the memory is DDR3...
       · Chaintech has changed the specs on this card, it no longer supports dual link DVI. ...
       · I just read your review. I can't believe you tested the cards at different settings....
