Video Cards Compared
- ABIT Siluro FX5900 OTES (128MB) (45.23 drivers)
- FIC Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB) (Catalyst 3.6 drivers)
We tried to put together a test system that would match closest what the average person looking to purchase a top end video card would be running. Other than what was stated above there was no tweaks done to this system. The memory is running at 4:5 to allow for a 200MHz memory bus and everything else was stock.
Thru all of the benchmarks we ran the drivers in the "quality" settings. We also ran a lot of antialiasing and antisotropic filtering for the simple reason that we wanted to lay the smack down on these cards. If you are simply looking for high frame rates then a much lesser card with eye candy off will suit you fine. If you're looking for a 5900 then you obviously want a card that can handle the newer games while displaying stellar image quality.
We've chosen a good mix of games, synthetic benchmarks, and feature testing programs to run in our benchmarks. Our ultimate goal is to give you enough information to decide for yourself if this ABIT Siluro is for you or not. Let's roll..
BENCHMARKS
Unreal Tournament 2003

Unreal Tournament 2003 is currently the gaming benchmark staple in the community, and for good reason. With it's high quality 3D engine and stellar game play, generally everyone has this! Not only that but even if you don't own it you can download the demo and run these benchmarks yourself to compare. We used the benchmarking utility developed over at HardOCP.com and straight up, benchmarking gets no easier than using this stellar utility, thanks guys!
We compared both of the cards using a variety of AA/AF settings. When you see "Maxed" below that's exactly what we mean. We pushed both cards as far image quality wise as we could with the drivers and let em roll. Let's do it.
1024x768 Comparison:

I have to admit to being a tad suprised that the FX5900 hung so well except obviously with everything maxed, but that was more thrown in for fun than anything as it's not exactly an "even" comparison. We have to keep in mind, this is only 1024x768, so we'll see what happens when we crank up the resolution. We'll do just that on page four.
