Soyo SlimEX Platinum Review - Testing and conclusion
(Page 5 of 5 )
For my tests, I decided to use a folder of approximately 200 MB. This folder contains ZIP files, images, documents, and more. In all, it has approximately 224 files. First, I copied the contents of this folder to a 1 GB Cruzer Micro USB drive that I use from time to time. It took approximately 50 seconds for me to copy this folder from the hard drive to the Flash drive.

Next, I did the same exact copying task from my hard drive to the Soyo SlimEX Platinum. The same copy that took nearly a minute to execute to a flash drive took only eight seconds to copy to the Soyo SlimEX Platinum. I'd call that a bit of a speed improvement, wouldn't you?
So that brings us to the final thoughts, and the pluses and minuses for this drive:
Pluses:
VERY quick compared to Flash drives.
Very small form factor (about two inches by four inches).
Quite rugged (I dropped it a few times, oops).
Good capacity (20 GB is nothing to sneer at).
Great price (much lower in cost than smaller flash drives).
Minuses:
USB cable(s) are too short.
Since it is HDD based, it's much more susceptible to drops and bumps.
Package should indicate more of its compatibilities (Mac/Linux).
Overall, this is indeed a great product. It's built well and performed flawlessly and quietly through all tests. On a scale of 1-10, I would definitely be neglectful if I didn't give this device a perfect score of 10 and the Dev Hardware Platinum award. Sure the cables were short, but it wasn't enough to keep the quality of this device down.

So there we are, a Platinum award for a Platinum device. I'd like to thank Soyo for sending us the Soyo SlimEX Platinum for review. If you'd like any more information about this device or any more of Soyo's fine products, feel free to visit Soyo's website at http://www.soyogroup.com.
