Network Storage for the Home with the D-Link DNS-323 - The Software

Initially, you need to use the D-Link Easy Search Utility (provided on the accompanying CD) to find the device on your network and map it to your computer. From here, you can access the web-based interface to format the drive(s).

As well as the Easy Search utility, the CD also provides access to an installer for the backup software and Acrobat Reader, the quick installation guide, manual and support information.

Formatting the drive I used during testing (a 160GB Western Digital Caviar) took a little longer than the same size drive in the SC101, but the setup did offer more configuration options. In addition to specifying a configuration of either Standard, JBOD, RAID 0 or RAID 1, you can also decide the file system to use and it allows you to choose between the proprietary EXT2 (for best performance), or EXT3 (for best stability [although this feature has been removed as of the latest firmware update]) file systems.
