Netgear SC101 Network Attached Storage for the Home - First impression
(Page 2 of 4 )
First impressions were very promising; it was presented very well, without excessive amounts of packaging. Netgear as usual give you everything you need including the storage unit itself, documentation, driver and application CDs, the power supply and, importantly, a network cable. When I say they give you everything you need, I don't mean that they throw in a couple of 250GB hard drives (unfortunately), but at £68.15 ($134.50) I don't really expect them to. What I mean is that it's nice of them to throw in a network cable. Sure they don't cost much, but I'd hate to get home with my new storage center and a couple of drives and discover that I didn't have any network cables with which to connect it to my network.

The storage center itself looks good enough, with a smooth white exterior and brushed silver end plates. There are three lights at the front of the device to indicate hard drive detected/activity, device on and network detected/activity. The lock that opens the device to allow for the insertion of drives is also featured on the front, and unusually is coin operated.

The rear of the device holds the Ethernet and power connections, the reset button and a guide to the lights on the front.
