Icy Dock Modiflash 722 - Testing and conclusion

Starting the machine up, the drive inside the Modiflash was picked up and recognized by Windows with no problem.  The handle of the tray actually alternates between four different colors while in operation.  With the lights low, this added an overall cool effect to my computer.

Testing the speed would be useless, since the internal unit just accesses the native SATA interface; it runs at the native SATA speed allowed by the controller and the drive.

The LCD shows information such as:

    • Real-time drive temp.
    • Drive activity/overheat/MASTER/SLAVE status
    • Fan working/failure status
    • Device usage time record

In any case, as with all of the products reviewed on our sites, let's get down to the pros and cons of this unit:

    Pros:

    • Solid, well-built construction
    • Uses native SATA interface for speed
    • Cool looking swappable face plates
    • LCD readout with visible/audio alarms
    • Faceplate alternates colors

    Cons:

    • None!

At the time of this writing, the Modiflash 722 is a little more expensive ($41 at the time of this writing) than some other removable drive enclosures, but the cool factor makes it worth it, in my opinion.

This being said, I give this product a rating of 10 out of 10.  This is truly a quality product, and delivers everything it promises and more.  As such, this product is quite deserving of Dev Hardware's Platinum award.

I'd like to thank Icy Dock for sending us the Modiflash 722 for review.  If you have any questions or would like more information on this or any of Icy Dock's other products, visit them at http://www.icydock.com/product/mb722.html
