Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 Review - Future Compatibility

Future compatibility is another reason to inspire you to look at the SATA version of this drive. In Intel's latest ICH6 southbridge, there is only a single PATA channel, allowing for two devices to hang off of it. And, as you may or may not be aware, the PATA bus slows down to accommodate the slowest device, with no regard as to whether it is the master or the slave. Since most optical drives are still constrained to the older interface, it'd be preferable to avoid having your faster HD get stuck running in ATA-33 in order to play nice with your CD-RW.
