Bluegears b-Enspirer - Well, how does it sound?

In all fairness, I thought I should listen to this card in two ways.  First, I listened to it with my 5.1 speakers, then I reconnected my Altec Lansing 2.1 system as well. For both approaches, I listened to the following:

    1. Return of the King: Battle at Minas Tirith (watched the DVD on the computer).
    2. Broadway recording of Camelot on CD.
    3. Played "Fear."
    4. Listened to Nickelback's latest album.

I must say, after tweaking the EQ where I wanted it, I was totally blown away by the sound quality pumped out by this card. The highs were crisp, the bass was solid, and the sound separation was outstanding. Even when listening to stereo recordings, the card did an outstanding job of channel separation and creating a good "surround sound" experience.

Even when I switched back to the 2.1 speakers I was using with the on-board audio, there was an astounding difference in how everything sounded.  The card did an awesome job emulating a surround sound environment. In fact, it was so good, I could barely believe it was actually coming from my 2.1 speakers (I actually had to check to make sure).

So, as always, here are the pros and cons for the Bluegears b-Enspirer:

    PROS:

    • Sound quality is TOP NOTCH.
    • Tons of excellent features.
    • Configuration software is quite extensive.
    • Eight independent output channels capable of digital 192kHz (with true 24bit processing).
    • Priced VERY well ($109 at the time of this writing).
    • Enhances even a 2.1 speaker configuration.

    CONS:

    • The configuration software is a bit hard to navigate; it could use a help menu or tooltips of some sort.

Even with the software being a little cryptic, I feel it would be unjust to give this product anything but a perfect 10 out of 10, and Dev Hardware's coveted Platinum award.  If you are looking for a high quality sound card capable of 5.1 or higher, then this is the ticket right here!

I would like to take a moment to thank Bluegears for not only sending us the b-Enspirer to review, but for introducing us to such an incredible product. If you would like any more information about the b-Enspirer or any Bluegear's other products, visit their website at: http://www.bluegears.com/b-Enspirer.html
