    Top 6 Web-Based Email Applications - AIM and Inbox.com

    AIM Mail

It should not be a surprise thatAIM Mailoffers unlimited online storage. After all, it's one of the top web-based email services in the world. AOL's free email service also has reliable spam protection. You will find its graphical user interface to be simple and easy to use. You can use HTML to create email messages.

Unfortunately, AIM Mail does not offer certain features that you will find in Gmail or Yahoo. For example, this application doesn't have smart folders, message threading, or labels. However, it does use the same two protocols, POP and IMAP. AIM Mail allows you to access your email through your cell phone. Use the application's AIM client to have conversations right in your browser. You can also archive your instant messages to your AIM Mail folders.

AIM Mail has a spam filter in that it will kick out unwanted email or it will route it to the "spam" folder. It offers similar features, including creating auto-replies and blocking remote images from appearing in your email messages. You can also create and use calendars for setting up events or to-do lists.

    Inbox.com

Like GMX Mail, Inbox.com also comes with 5GB of online storage. You can access Inbox.com either through the web or POP in your email program. Its web interface enables you to perform rich threading, free-form labels, and rich text editing. Unlike the other email applications, Inbox.com does not support IMAP.

You can organize your mail by using custom folders, stars, free labels, and filters. By the way, you can color-code the free-form labels.

This application comes with a spam filter. It also blocks remote images from appearing in your messages. Inbox.com does allow you to send email messages up to 30 MB. You can incorporate the following features into your email: notes, file storage, photo galleries, and calendar.

If you're looking for daily backups, consider Inbox.com. However, it will charge you a fee for this service.
