Smartphone App iZup Helps Make the Roads Safer - iZup: the Specifics
(Page 2 of 3 )
We’ve already touched on what the application does, but the specifics of how it works are actually very interesting. Essentially, iZup uses GPS technology to detect the driver’s speed as they’re in their car. If the application detects that the automobile is traveling more than five miles per hour, the application will actually send all incoming calls to voicemail and hold all text messages.
Even if drivers make a conscious effort to not talk or text while driving, the thing that distracts them may be the sound of their phone. Even if they don’t text back or answer the call, hearing the phone sound off and grabbing for it in order to see who left a text or called can be just as distracting -- and dangerous -- as calling a friend back or responding to a text while driving.
That is one crucial element to iZup’s design: the app doesn’t make any sounds notifying the driver that they’ve missed messages or calls of any kind. Your phone may release a flurry of buzzes and beeps once you’ve reached your final location, but in the name of safety, it’s a small price to pay.
Truth be told, this application is intended for teenagers, as it requires an account whose specifics are to be managed by parents. Illume Software even goes as far as saying that the application is “teenager tamper proof” because it’s incredibly difficult to uninstall. Not only that, but once the app has been properly installed by a parent -- i.e. the account holder -- should the app be tampered with or removed in any way, the account holder will immediately receive an alert via e-mail and text message.
If you have a loved one who has a bad habit of texting/talking while driving and no amount of statistics, talks, or threats seems to convince them to do otherwise, iZup shouldn’t be ruled out just because it’s intended for teenagers. This would be a perfect gift that may save someone’s life, or the lives of innocent folks on the roads around them.
Account holders even have the option of entering authorized phone numbers (such as emergency contact numbers or parents’ phone numbers) into the account. This means that those specific numbers will be the only ones capable of contacting the driver through phone calls or text messages as they are en route to their location.
