As the capabilities of our technology increase, there seem to be more and more ways for us to watch TV. You can use any number of cable or satellite providers to watch your favorite shows in the comfort of your living room, and even use technologies like digital video recorders (DVRs) or TiVo to watch them whenever you want. You can even watch TV on your computer now. Nero Liquid TV lets you do just that.
If the TV is busy, and like most of us you can not afford, or do not want to, have a TV in each room of your home, you may need to find other options. Unless, that is, you enjoy watching your boyfriend's favorite action movie, the same childrenís cartoon for the one hundredth time, or your girlfriend's sappy soap opera. Now that I have inspired you to figure out some other options, lets talk about how to get some TV on your computer.
Why should you use your computer to watch TV?
Good question, and a good question deserves a good answer. I have several ready for you. First, you already have one in your house. This eliminates the need to pay extra for more hardware than you need. It also keeps you from having to find more storage space for a new screen, as ostensibly you already have a home for your computer monitor.
Secondly, if you use a laptop, you can take your TV on the go with you. From your favorite comfy chair in the den, to the master bedroom and even out on your back deck in the summer, your shows can come with you.
The thing is, you want both quality and variety. This is not something that all online TV services can provide. Sure, sites like Hulu can give you picture quality, but you are forever limited to their listings and only to recent episodes of newer shows.
If you delve into the less regulated, and mostly illegal, world of TV downloads, your options will open up, but the quality of your shows will be greatly variable. To get what you really want, you are going to have to go to a service. Luckily one of those services is just what we are here to talk about today.
The service we are taking a look at today is called Nero Liquid TV. Nero is made by the same folks who make the TiVo setup that you can use to fast forward the commercials on your standard TV service, among other things. Not surprisingly at all, Nero Liquid TV is essentially the same service applied to watching TV on your PC.
In order to help you get the information you want, we are going to style this review as a question and answer. That way if you donít care about things like show flagging or receiver card formats, you wonít have to sit through them to find what you want to know. Though I do recommend that you read them all before you make a final decision or a purchase
Can Nero Liquid TV really do all of the same things that TiVo can do?
For the most part, yes it can. You can watch live TV on your PC or you can pause it. You can also record it for your future viewing pleasure should you so choose. In addition, you will find some of your most popular TiVo features like the live rewind, the season pass, the search function and the kid zone.
It does, however, lack some of the minor features of TV-based TiVo service. If you enjoy the TiVo support for podcasts, the streaming Internet radio and the support for the Amazon video-on-demand service, then you will notice their absence. Of course, you are on a computer, which could technically do all of those things for you without TiVo.
Having to switch between things over and over again to change your media, however, seems like an annoyance. How much this bothers you will vary based on you use of the features and any love you bear towards your current services.
