Nowadays we're used to seeing everything migrate to the Web. Faxing is no exception. Today there are numerous online services that offer various options for sending and receiving high-quality fax copies without owning or having access to a modern fax machine. Recently, mass faxing has also become possible. We can now send hundreds of faxes nearly instantaneously. In this article we are going to present and review some of the most popular online faxing services.
Keep in mind that in this article we won't discuss traditional faxing. It's all about going online thanks to the migration of this wonderful telecommunications technology to the Web, and being able to access all of its capabilities without owning a modern fax machine or a dedicated faxing telephone line.
Fortunately, more than 95 percent of the online fax web services are totally web-based. This means that they won't require you to download fancy applications and struggle with their graphical user interface. If the service of your choice requires registration (as most do), then after logging into your account, everything "happens" inside your account control panel. So basically you can access a virtual fax machine via your web browser.
Therefore, please don't confuse this article with some general faxing server how-to and "Fax over IP." A fax server is a set of computer applications that communicate with a dedicated fax-capable modem attached to either a phone line or emulated Fax over IP transmission technology (T.38). This is good for organizations, but it is way too much hassle for the rest of us. Thus, this article talks only about Internet faxing services!
The beauty of Internet faxing is, simply put, reducing the overall costs. Obviously other advantages cannot be neglected. These include paperless communication (via your web-browser and/or e-mail), the ability to send and/or receive multiple faxes simultaneously to different destinations practically anywhere in the world, freedom from extra devices (fax modem, fax machine, etc.) and additional telephone lines, and reduced phone costs.
On another note, you do not need to "take care" of the fax machine because you aren't the operator; you are only the customer of their services. You do not need to worry about paper, toner, and other technical malfunctions. A high level of confidentiality is always guaranteed. You can access your account based on a password and username. The possibility of getting your fax into the wrong hands is excluded. And yes, the mobility factor is built in!
