Athlon 64 and Windows XP 64 Bit Edition - Benchmarks: POV-Ray, STARS CFD Solver, and WinRAR

    POV-Ray

    POV Ray

Using POV-Ray v3.5 and the included benchmark test v1.02, you can see that again the two operating systems don't have much to differentiate them. It's a one percent difference, and over 44 minutes that can be because of a lot of things. Since the source code for POV-Ray is available, I'm going to recompile it for x86-64, and see what the differences are. Stay tuned for the update, as I'll try to recompile as much open source software as I can for this OS.

    STARS CFD Solver

    STARS CFD Solver

This benchmark provided by the University of Oklahoma State's CASE Lab, is an excellent tool representing common computational fluid dynamic simulators. It's also an example of pure floating point math abilities. As we can see from the above, the difference was negligible.

    WinRAR

    WinRAR

One last time, I found the differences to be statistically irrelevant between the two operating systems. It was consistently one second faster in 64-bit "compatibility" mode, but that's nothing to get excited about.
