Athlon 64 and Windows XP 64 Bit Edition - Benchmarks: Encoding

    DivX Encoding

Using Xmpeg 5.03, and DivX 5.1.1, I encoded the third period from Game 8 of the '72 hockey "Summit Series" between Canada and Russia using a bit rate of 1000kb/s for the video and 96kb/s stereo for the audio.

In my testing, I found the two to be identical.  Once we do get optimized encoders and codecs for the A64, this is one of the programs that could show a benefit from x86-64.

    LAME MP3 Encoding

This test consists of an MP3 conversion of The Tragically Hip album "Phantom Power" using the DBPoweramp frontend. The settings were for 192 kHz, and no volume normalization.

This was one of the only programs where I found a distinct advantage for Windows XP 64 Bit Edition. This test was incredibly consistent, every time I ran it I got the exact same results on both OSs.  Whatever the 64-Bit Edition is doing right for this test, I'm hoping can be applied to the other ones with time.
