All About Emulators: Re-Visiting the Ghost of Games Past - More Popular Emulators

    PlayStation

    ePSXe

Considered by many to be the best emulator for PlayStation, ePSXe works well with many PS1 ROMs. There are many different plug-ins you must download in order for this program to work, however, so be sure you get all files when you download this emulator.

    PlayStation 2

    PS2emu

This is a great PlayStation 2 emulator, but you'll need certain .BIN files for it to run on your system. Check the program's ReadMe file carefully to be sure you're meeting all the requirements.

    PCSX2

This is a somewhat outdated PS2 emulator, so some ROMs may not work with PCSX2. This emulator does run many PS2 ROMs, however, and is much easier to run than PS2emu.

    Using Emulators

Most emulators are available for download in .zip or .exe files. Once unpacked, downloaded and set up, your emulator will have its own folder on your hard drive. You'll open and run the emulator program first, then open a ROM (a game) from the File menu. If your emulator appears in full-screen mode, you may not see your menu bar right away. Try hitting the escape button first - this will usually shrink the program into small-screen mode so you can play with your menu.

Some emulators will work with your mouse, while others can only work with the keyboard. Be sure to check your Options menu to see how the player controls are set up. Most emulators will default to the keyboard. Change the configuration as needed for your own game play. You may also buy a controller pad or joystick to make game play even more akin to what you enjoyed in the past. Some universal controller pads can be plugged into your computer via USB, putting you right back into nostalgia.

Using emulators, you can re-visit all your former moments of gaming glory, and re-connect to the memories of much simpler gaming times.
