Ultra X-Connect 500W Modular PSU - Internal View, Ports, Cables

Taking a peak inside the X-Connect reveals two very small heat sinks. Typically, power supplies need to stay cool in order to keep power rails from sagging. It is very important for the rails to not fluctuate otherwise problems can arise at any time and be very difficult to troubleshoot. Hopefully either the X-Connect has very good airflow or can withstand the added heat. On another note, specials PSUs have potentiometers externally to change the 12v, 3.3v, and 5v rails on the fly while some others have them internally. The X-Connect PSU however, does not have any adjustable pots.

You can see that the ports are covered by plastic pieces which are easily removed. The first five ports are for 4-pin Molex connections, the next port is the 12V P4 port, then the AUX Xeon port, and finally the motherboard power port. The X-Connect cables attach to the PSU just like they would to any device or motherboard.

Here is a better look at the X-Connect cable's plug-like connectors. They certainly look better than the standard white connectors but they are also slightly longer. Because the cable is also UV wrapped, they are very difficult to bend sharply especially at the end near a connector.

The UV reactive shielded cables are very high quality. You can really tell that these were professionally put together, not made by one person with a cable kit.

Beside an Enermax 350W power supply, the X-Connect is larger by nearly an inch. This added length, plus the way X-Connect cables attach to the PSU, can create problems in certain cases. I'll show you why and how as I could not fit the X-Connect in my case.
