SilenX 400W PSU Review - Conclusion
After putting it through what I thought would bring this power supply to it's knees, it passed with flying colours. What else is there to say? SilenX has a quality unit put together here, and should be sufficient to power almost any rig out there. On top of that, it's dead quiet. I thought my Enermax was a quiet PSU, until I put this thing in my rig. You can't hear it, even with no fans on. In fact, your hard drives will be louder. So, time to go over the pros and cons.
Pros
The unit screams quality
It's quieter than a coffin
Strong across all voltage lines, even under heavy load
Good over-voltage/over-current protection
Cons
This is a high quality power supply. I have no issues recommending it to anyone that uses a normal case, and either has a normal amount of devices or isn't afraid to toss in a few cable splitters. The performance of the unit surprised me, considering it's humble ratings. It is definitely a step up in class from the average power supply found in most systems. And of course, if you value quietness, this is an even better buy.
A few last words. The sales people at SilenX informed me of an infringement of trademarks they are involved in. Do not confuse this product with the Ahanix "Silenx" power supply. They are not the same, even though they do carry a similar 14db sound rating. SilenX PSUs like the one I reviewed today can only be purchased through their website, www.silenx.com.
